I want to start off saying that I am SO PROUD of all our NAPS students! Each of them worked so hard to prepare and perform in the Pageant and Pre-K Sing-A-Long this past December!
I am excited to start the new year with celebration! Throughout the month of January students will be learning about the traditions, culture and music associated with the Lunar New Year. They really enjoyed watching this video.
Additionally, each grade level will begin learning how to play an instrument this semester. 3rd, 4th & 5th graders will be studying violin. 2nd grade will be starting ukulele while 1st graders tackle the xylophone. Kindergarten students will be learning rhythms on the bucket drums and Pre-K students will work towards mastery of steady beat using simple percussion instruments (maracas, triangles & wood blocks).
Enrichments will be starting up soon as well! NAPSingers will meet on Mondays, Ukulele on Tuesdays and Recorder on Wednesdays. These clubs are open to NAPS students in grades 2-5. For more information visit the Enrichments tab.
We are off to an exciting start! I anticipate a season of fun and musical growth. As always, please let me know if you have any questions! (klehman@napschool.com)
That festive time of year is upon us! Students have already begun preparing song selections for the NAPS Pageant. This performance will take place on Thursday, Dec 12th at 7:00PM. Below you can find all of the music for each grade’s performance. Auditions for 4th and 5th grade solos will take place on Nov 19th and 20th.
Additionally, our students have been invited to sing at the Naval Station Tree Lighting on Dec. 6th. There they will perform a selection of songs from the Pageant music so there is no need to prepare anything additional 🙂

It has been a wild and wonderful start to the 2018-2019 school year here in the music room at NAPS! In the past seven weeks, we have started a new curriculum (MusicPlay), received generous funding for thirty violins and Orff instruments, started preparing for our Halloween Parade, planned a trip to see a show on Broadway, and are gearing up for two musicals and a ukulele concert all in the next two months!
Our new curriculum, MusicPlay, has a student login to access the site full of music, games, theory, & more! Visit the website at musicalplayonline.com and enter the username “student” and the password is “music18.” Please let me know if there are any problems with this.
We will start violin group lessons after Holiday Break in all 3-5th music classes. There will be more information to follow in coming months.
